Silence Before the Storm

So tomorrow is the first day of the summer's first New Student Orientation at TAMUCC.  So it seems like a perfect time to unveil a project that I have been working on the past few weeks.

This year is was decided that we would create a program guide.  Instead of handing out numerous pieces of paper on varying topics, it was condensed down into this 10 page guide.  Inside students and parents will find everything they need to know regarding their bill, parking passes, adding classes, and their schedule for the length of the program.

It's been a while since I've had the opportunity to put together something this intensive and detailed.  Though it was a good bit of work, I had a blast doing it and hope it's a big help to new students tomorrow.  Below is a preview of the cover.  Click on the links, to see the individual page spreads.

Graduation Season is Upon Us

Things have been very busy for me outside of the design world, so sorry for the lack of posts.  My big concentration right now is apply for Graduate school.  I'm applying for an online program for Communication & Public Relations that's offered at a major University in Ohio....keep your fingers crossed that I get accepted!

The application is very thorough and has been taking up a good chunk of my time.  If I am lucky enough to be accepted to, I'll still be designing, but it will defiantly take a back seat to my studies (for the next two years in anyway).

In other news, it's that time of year.....GRADUATION....here is an example of one of the many Graduation Invites I had the pleasure of designing this year.

Best of luck to all of those 2012 Graduates!

Generation TX Day Returns

So last year, you may remember me posting about the opportunity I had to design the t-shirt that was worn campus-wide on 'Generation TX Day' by the faculty & staff at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

Luckily enough, I was bestowed the same honor this, but this time around, I came-up with an all new design (even on a very limited time frame to boot).  This year, close to 1,000 t-shirts were sold.  Which is roughly 60% of the campus staff population.  So if you see one of these shirts walking around town...you know know the story behind it.

A Milestone

So as hard as it is to believe, this will be my FIFTH year designing the materials and t-shirts for Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi's New Student Orientation.

It defiantly doesn't seem like its been that long, but when looking back at my previous work, I can defiantly tell in difference in the quality of my work. This year is a little though....this year there is a huge concentration on marketing and image, which is where I come in.  There of tons of design pieces planned.  Everything from multiple t-shirts, signs, posters, handouts and brochures.

The first item sent out to Freshmen is the postcard below...they should be getting these in the mail in the next few days. This will give you a little taste of what to expect in my next few posts.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

This weekend if you're walking around the Riverwalk and see a group of women in these t-shirts....give them a shout!  A month ago I worked with the Maid of Honor on this truly unique design for a bachelorette party.  In case you're not the alcohol-savy type, the design is based on the Bride's favorite liquor, Jack Daniels.  Click on the image to see it on a t-shirt...

Enjoy your weekend everyone....have St. Patrick's Day!

Back to School

Recently, I've been working quite a bit with Dulce & Bellezza Photography here in Corpus Christi.  If you remember, I actually re-designed their logo Spring of last year.  And speaking of, if you are looking for a photographer in the coastal bend area, give them a look....their photography is amazing.

One of the owners contacted me early in the week and wanted to see if I could do a quick turnaround on a District Championship Banner for Ray High School's Basketball team.  After a few hours in photoshop, a few more in design software, and a couple of cups of coffee, we have this:

The hardest part?  Inserting 12 separate player photos and trying to keep all of the heights to each accurate....easier said and done.  Hope the Texans are proud to hang this in their gym.

Stay tuned for new blogs next week.

and Everything Else Wedding

Continuing with our wedding theme here at the blog, this post is all about the invites and some additional design items.  After lots of research, discussion and idea throwing-around, my wife and I came with a few design goals.

First off, they needed to be elegant, classy and clean.  We wanted there to be a theme, but not a cheesy prom 'Our Night is Forever' theme.  We simply wanted there to be a common thread linking on the design.  And last but not least, we wanted them to be different.

First up, we have the invites.

These were printed on shimmer cardstock with a soft gloss finish.  Orginally we had talked about using a method called 'letterpressing,' in which the paper is literally pressed with a stamp, which causes a soft imprint.  However, the custom cost was outrageous, and we decided against it. The RSVPs were our favorite.  These came with a pair of stickers, in which the guest could peel off, and place on the postcard.  (Click on the thumbnails for full view)

The rest are just some random items.  The first thumbnail is our wedding program, which was also printed on the shimmer cardstock.
The second, was a door hanger waiting for our guests as they arrived at their hotels.  On one side, the expected 'Do Not Disturb' note, on the other a listing of things to do...restaurants, sights to see, night life, etc.
And finally, the third one was a simple piece found at each place setting at the reception.  One the front a listing of some unfamiliar wedding traditions taking place throughout the night, on the reverse, a fun, quirky, wedding-themed Mad Lib (who doesn't love a good Mad Lib!?)

Be on the look out for some brand new t-shirt designs....I've got some new ones up my sleeve that I've been dying to get designed.

Happy Friday Everyone.
