Wedding Bliss

Being a designer has its benefits, especially when you're working on projects for yourself. My wife and I were married back in November, and with it brought a huge list of design projects to complete.  First thing on the list was our save the date.

This is just a small sampling of the postcards I mocked-up, but these were the leaders of the pack.  Eventually we agreed on this design.  It's small combination of several different elements.

Stay tuned, many more wedding items to come.

Island Day Gets a Facelift

Four times a year over at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, there is a big open-house event called Island Day. This gives perspective students a chance to come see the campus first-hand and ask all the questions they desire.

One of my many fall projects was re-facing the Island Day logo. This logo dates way back to 2006, so it was time for in update.  Without completely ditching the old look and keeping the somewhat same identity, I had to come up with a new logo with a new pop.

This was one of those logos that just came into my head from the start.  I thought the paint the splatters was a good starting point, but I wanted to find a way to really stress the event, and incorporate the University's name....with a new color palette, black becoming more of an ascent color and a thick white border....in my opinion: Mission Accomplished.  If you want to see what it looks like on a t-shirt, just click here.  And see the bigger logo below.  And what's next for the blog?  Well, let's just say 'here comes the bride' (and all of her invitations).

Happy [belated] New Year Blog Nation

I realize it's been almost a full year since I last blog...I know...I know....my apologies. For those that don't know, the last half of 2011 became VERY busy.

My full-time job requires me to travel about 4-6 weeks during the months of September & October, so that alone (unfortunately) took away from my blogging time. Also, and the really big deal...I got married in late November! So witht that, coupled with the busyness of trying to help plan (and design) a perfect waiting, updating my blog with designs feel by the waste-side....but I'm BACK strong for 2012.

Expect several updates over the next few weeks. The sketch pad and mouse was busy that last few months, and I have lots of things I want to share....especially some quirky items I designed for my wedding.

Also working on some new t-shirt designs, so expect to see some things up for vote on Threadless (keep our fingers crossed this time).

Happy 2012....it's shaping up to be a great one

Ready for my Close-up

Hello blog-nation. It's been a few weeks since my last blog. It's been pretty busy with life in general. I did have a chance to post this little design nugget.
I've been working with ACPF for about 3 months now.  In addition to a new logo, I also designed all their new stationary, and a brand new website which you can see below.

Stay tuned for more design goodness throughout the summer!  Hope you all had a good Fourth of July!

Oh So Fresh

So a few months ago I published a postcard I designed for TAMUCC's New Student Orientation. Finally we have the unveiling of the T-Shirt that will be given out to all the new freshmen (about 2,000 in total).

This is a t-shirt I've had in the back of head for a few years now. It's a complete play on words. From a distance, the shirt reads 'So FRESH' (as you can obviously see for yourself). But, if you look closely, the word 'man' is in the bottom corner of the 'H'. If you put two and two together, the shirt read 'So FRESHMAN'....perfect for any first year college student. Just click on the shirt to see an upclose view.

Enjoy and have a great Friday!

June = New Logo Month

So here I am again posting about new logos.  It seems like summer is the time for sports teams to ditch their old identities and completely get a new one.

Today I not only have one rebranded identities, but two.  Ok, so the second one isn't so much of a rebrand as it is a 'color' update....but it's a new one none-the-less.

First up we have the Nashville Predators of the NHL.

Nashville Predators Before & After

Nashville Predators (Alternate) Before & After

I think this rebrand is really smart. The Predators already had a strong logo, just needed a little bit of an update and pushed into the modern era. Don't fix what isn't broke.  The 'Preds' did just that. Loose the chrome touch, dull down the detail, use just your primary colors and call it a day.  Well done.  I'm not one for owning sports jerseys.  Just depending on what we see from Reebok, this would look great framed, mounted on on the wall in my sports cage.

As for the logo, also VERY smart.  Go super simple.  The previous logo while pretty sweet and unique wasn't really equipped to be shoulder patch logo.  It need to be used as a 'front and center' logo.  The new logo incorporates 3 basic items.  First a guitar pick, which makes perfect sense considering Nashville's tie to Country music.  You also have a simplified piece of the new abbreviated mark, plus a link to Tennessee's state flag.  The logo isn't bold and doesn't blow you away, but it's smart and will look great on a jersey.

Next up is the New York Knicks.

New York Knicks Before & After

Yes, obviously not earth-shattering. In fact, if they weren't next to each other, probably wouldn't be able to tell the different right away. But it a pretty solid improvement. I think the important thing here is that the wordmark 'pops' a lot more. It doesn't get lost in the shadow as much as it did.  Overall nice touch.

Hopefully, there won't be many more of these the rest of the summer.

I'll have a few new projects up soon including a new logo and website for a local Corpus Christi business, new brochure design, not to mention the entire marketing suite of the IceRays for the 2011-2012 (including new tickets, program, website and schedules).  Stay tuned.

Paging Doctor.....

Recently, I was approached about doing a t-shirt for the Cardiac Unit at Christus Spohn Shoreline here in Corpus Christi.  I've done a lot of health-related t-shirts in the past, but this one I got to us my imagination with a bit more than I had in the past.

Click on the image below to view the shirt as a whole. Enjoy!
